As a measure to comply with emission-control regulations, manufacturers of diesel-powered vehicles use Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), or AdBlue, which is a urea-based chemical reactant consisting of 32.5% urea and 67.5% deionized water that is injected into the vehicle's exhaust stream. This commitment to DEF - which has been called "the largest addition to the motor-vehicle liquids marketplace in decades" - has opened a new market, and with it a host of unique challenges that must be taken into consideration when transporting, storing or using DEF.
Blackmer developed a sliding vane pump specifically designed for use with DEF and built with materials that will withstand the corrosive properties of DEF. Built with 316 stainless-steel, non-metallic Duravanes, PTFE elastomers, and chemical mechanical seals all Blackmer DEF Sliding Vane Pumps meet ISO 22241-3 certification for material compatibility.
